  • My name is Phill I am a professional photographer in Christchurch. Welcome to my bio page explaining the history of how photography became my passion.

My first experience with cameras was way back when I was a small child. A have a memory of aiming my small 35mm film camera at my grandfather who was filming me with a video camera. Luckily that footage still exists today and I am thankful because it provides the moment when photography came alive. As I grew older I took lots of photos of pets and family which I have in old photo albums. During that time I enjoyed the idea of taking photos, finishing a roll of film and having developed, reviewing the prints was always fun!

Towards the end of my high school years I enjoyed photography classes working on black and white film. Developing film in dark rooms presented some great insight into how photos are created using different techniques to create fantastic photography images. I still have my film camera from school which I sometimes use now and then, for me 35mm film cameras are still a great format for use today. Living in the digital photography age where correcting and touching up images can be achieved with software, replacing the dark room for a computer to develop professional images. For me the post processing part is where the images become art. I enjoy working with photos on the computer, for me putting work into photos coming to a professional looking image.

Photography for me, it’s my passion! From the first part looking at setting up shots, anticipating great images by using the best piece of equipment we have… our eyes! Using my eyes to see what beauty I can achieve from simply looking opens up the mind for limitless creativity producing great images. I have a huge passion for photography, I am lucky to be able to work on a dream job which started as a child of seven years old.

I enjoy working with people, being able to create great images for my clients filling my life with joy!
